GP Registrars

For our patients;
A GP Registrar is a qualified doctor who is training to become a GP they complete their training requirements. They undertake an extensive training program of up to 4 years covering all domains of general practice and undergo ongoing assessments of their competencies. At the end of their training, they are required to pass exams and reach a standard for independent practice.

Our GP registrars will usually have spent at least two years working in a hospital before you see them in a GP practice and are closely supervised. They are often required to move practices as part of their training for broader clinical exposure.

At Sapphire Clinic we aim to provide an environment that is a pleasure to work in and one which is welcoming to patients. Attention is paid to the physical environment including the quality of the consulting rooms, teaching facilities, and food at our teaching sessions. The interpersonal environment is respectful and inclusive.

Sapphire Clinic has 4 long term GPs specialising in a wide breadth of medicine covering Paediatrics, Women’s Health, General Medicine, Geriatric Health and Palliative care. We look after a broad spectrum of patients in varying complexities which is suited to registrar learning.

We encourage any special interest areas – our current GPs provide comprehensive care that extends to home visits, nursing homes, visiting rights at the local Pambula Hospital as well as Obstetric Care at South East Regional Hospital. Undertaking hospital work is welcomed.

The clinic is rural but has several visiting specialists and is co-located with allied health practitioners, it is expected that Registrars will seize the opportunities to interact with these practitioners.

We have a long standing culture of teaching for both medical students and GP registrars. Dr Yin Lee has stayed on to work as a permanent Fellowed GP after being our medical student and completing her GP training at the clinic.

We aim to provide a supportive learning environment which involves one to one teaching, as well as a dedicated 1 hour of learning every week attended by all the GPs covering various medical topics or complex clinical cases.

We also provide support with getting through your examination requirements as we have Fellows in both ACRRM and RACGP at Sapphire Clinic. We have been able to assist by providing exam practice and feedback to help our registrars pass their exams.

Dr Geoffrey Thomas and Dr Yin Lee, are our 2 supervisors accredited with GP Synergy.
